A stunning coastal location inspired architect Gemma Radicchio in her full-scale renovation of a residence in Italy’s Puglia region. The house, Casa Con Vista, in the town of Bari, is named for its dramatic sea views, which guided Raddichio’s creative vision throughout the project.
To facilitate full ocean views from the large windows, she dispensed with walls, creating an open interior that flows from one area to the next. Natural materials such as wooden floors and cabinets abound in the sun-drenched setting, enhancing the earthy sensibility.
Furnishings and lighting are restrained and minimal, yielding center stage to the seaside setting. In the dining room, Radicchio deployed the Match pendant by Jordi Vilardell and Meritxell Vidal.
Match is crafted of slender aluminum rods tipped with LEDS, the jagged geometric forms directed downwards in a sculptural focal point. The customized configuration runs the length of the table below, defining and anchoring it in the open-layout space, and doubling as dramatic décor.
Radicchio selected a pair of Duo fixtures for the living area. Designed by Ramos & Bassols, the ceiling lamp is defined by its striking material mix.
A beautifully veined oak interior lines the interior, is wrapped in a sleek aluminum shell. The juxtaposition perfectly suits Casa Con Vista, the natural oak complementing the flooring while the metal finish lends a spare, streamlined feel in keeping with the home’s understated aesthetic.
Affixed to the ceiling, the lamps recall sky lights directing the sunlight into the space, while their gently curved form evokes a soothing organic sensibility.
