Behind the Design: The Ghost Collection

A study in contrasts, Ghost embodies both spirit and materiality, invisibility and presence. The collection by Arik Levy features two formats and represents a contemporary reimagining of the grand lights that once graced entryways and living areas. True to its namesake, Ghost evokes an ethereal presence that assumes its full effect when illuminated.

The table lamp features a stacked silhouette of sensuous forms encircled by a black band that serves as a hand-touch dimmer.

The Ghost pendant is large in scale yet delicate in form, floating overhead from nearly invisible cables to create an elegant focal point.

This collection is a pass par tout. It can be anywhere, just like a ghost. It is a great living room light as much as it is a great hospitality centre light, hanging or floor its glow will radiate and create warmth and cosiness.

Inspired by the idea of making light without an object, Levy created what he calls “an invisible object full of light.” Evoking the characteristics of its name, Ghost is “there but not there, appearing and disappearing,” Levy says.

The smooth surface of its mouthblown, triplex opal glass enhances the ghostly effect with “the pure, warm glow of intangible matter.”

The table lamp perfectly expresses this concept of light as a material that moves from space to space. Its central belt acts as a kind of membrane that transitions light from one part of the luminaire to the other.

“Its two large amorphous forms become a glow of light that, when dimmed low, are inscrutable like a ghost.”
