Full House at MAKK, the designs of Stefan Diez

This exhibition is a must-see for anyone interested in design and who plans on visiting Cologne during the first six months of the New Year. The Museum of Applied Arts Cologne is dedicating a major retrospective to German industrial designer Stefan Diez (Freising, Bavaria 1971) from January 17th till June 11th offering visitors a total immersion in his work.

The city of Cologne is associated with excellence and innovation in the design sector, its IMM interiors trade fair is a world reference, perhaps that is the reason why Stefan Diez has been singled out by MAKK, given the radical and avant-garde nature of his work. Diez, who originally trained as a cabinet maker before attending the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Stuttgart, founded his own studio in Munich, where he has been working with renowned German and international clients since 2003.

Stefan Diez specialises in furniture, tableware and industrial design projects that harness the possibilities of production-technology and finance offered by the new digital environment, where social media and the sharing economy have rewritten the rules for industrial designers. The exhibition contains 23 sections, each of which highlights a particular aspect of his work, which is defined by research into new materials and technologies. A new lighting collection created for Vibia called ‘Guise’ will also be launched at the exhibition.
