Colnaghi Art Gallery, Londres. Hay cosas que mejoran con los años.

Fundada en Londres en el siglo XVIII Colnaghi es una de las galerías de arte más antiguas del mundo, dedicada en exclusiva a la compra y venta de obras de los grandes maestros de la historia. Recientemente la galería abandonó su emplazamiento en Bond Street y encargó a Diego Fortunato el diseño de los interiores del nuevo espacio.

 

 

Conseguir el equilibrio adecuado y proporcionar un espacio contemporáneo para una institución especializada en arte clásico fue todo un desafío, pero Fortunato, diseñador industrial y también director creativo de Colnaghi, supo combinar elementos antiguos con iconos modernos.

Uno de ellos es la versión de sobremesa de la lámpara Mayfair, inspirada en la antigua lámpara Bullot. Consiste en una pantalla metálica sostenida por una delgada columna metálica y forma parte de la colección de lámparas Mayfair que él mismo diseñó para Vibia.

Su versión en dorado pone el contrapunto lujoso al esquema de color monocromático utilizado en todo el interior.

El proyecto global de interiorismo consistió en acondicionar un espacio de galería, las oficinas y una biblioteca de consulta en una serie de habitaciones en los tres pisos superiores de 27 Bury Street. La sensibilidad de Fortunato se hace patente en todo el conjunto, que mezcla referencias del palacio de Versalles, como el suelo de parquet, con una prístina moderna escalera en espiral cuya forma orgánica contrasta bellamente con la rigidez de las estanterías y los pavimentos modulares del espacio de la biblioteca.

Las posibilidades de la artesanía moderna se aplican aquí a referencias milenarias, un poco como ocurre en la propia colección Mayfair.
