Best of Vibia: Hospitality Hot Spots

Vibia lighting lends itself to a wide range of environments, but certain settings provide the ideal fit for particular fixtures. Here, we’ve selected our favorite applications of Vibia designs in hospitality, from a stylish ski resort bar and an elegant eatery to a cutting-edge corporate café.

At the Colorado Grand Resort on Peak 8 in the historic ski town of Breckenridge, Matthew Stais Architects and Sarah Kane Designs collaborated with Visual Interest to create a stylish alpine lobby bar. Befitting its mountain setting, the lighting was inspired by tree branches. An abstract interpretation of this concept, Rhythm Horizontal features a riotous arrangement of stick-like modules set at intersecting angles. The customizable Arik Levy designed pendant is deployed over a communal table and in clusters along one side of the space, dotting the interior with whimsical constellations of light.

Located near downtown Calgary, the Alforno Bakery & Café was designed by FRANK architecture. From the marble service counter offering fresh-baked bread and pastries to the distressed leather banquettes for sit-down Italian fare, the space is crisply contemporary yet comfortable. The whitewashed palette and airy layout is illuminated by an oversized Wireflow chandelier suspended from the skylight ceiling. Crafted of slender black cables and fitted with LED terminals, the delicate, three-dimensional design by Arik Levy forms a compelling focal point that perfectly complements the interior’s minimalist feel.

Featuring a landmark design by famed architect Michael Graves, the Aventine office tower in San Diego is distinguished by its striking postmodern aesthetic. In 2015, Gensler Architects reimagined the lobby, adding a sleek café in keeping with the streamlined aesthetic. Reinforcing the room’s linear architecture is the Slim pendant by Jordi Vilardell. Its long, slender tapers dangle dramatically overhead, acting as punctuation points to draw visitors to the serving areas. Tipped with frosted glass diffusers, they glow with candlelit ambience.
