Match: Avant-Garde in An Alpine Space

In an interview, the couple who own this home told Mountain Living that they found the Match light for their dining room before even building the house. Finally finding a place to break ground amid the mountaintops of Big Sky, Montana, they constructed a modern home overlooking Lone Peak with this sculptural pendant light as a focal point.

The sleek, slope-side house—featured on the cover of Mountain Living —is located in the Yellowstone Club, a private residential community. Constructed of concrete and steel, it tacks against the typical timber-beam architecture that predominates in the Big Sky area. As cutting-edge and contemporary as the home itself, Match integrates with the space seamlessly.

 

Crafted of long, slim aluminum rods and capped with LED light terminals, the customizable pendant, designed by Jordi Vilardell and Meritxell Vidal, hovers over the wooden dining table. Its jagged form creates a stunning focal point in the open layout, the metal pieces echoing the steel-framed windows and reinforcing the room’s industrial aesthetic.

Despite the challenges of suspending Match from the soaring ceilings, the light represented a perfect fit for the modern space. “We love the simplicity of the fixture and how it complimented the clean lines of the project, while adding an element of sculpture,” says designer Eleana Montoya of Locati Interiors. “Lighting as art, instead of just functional lighting, although it does a great job of that as well.”
